Why Study American Government?
Government is one of the most important courses you will ever take. Why? Because we cannot have a successful civilized constitutional democratic republic unless citizens understand objective facts rather than ill-founded beliefs regarding: 1) the U.S. Constitution, the well spring from which all comes in America, 2) philosophies of governments and issues best to organize civilized society and to maximize liberty and happiness, 3) government institution structures and operational procedures, 4) how governments impact all aspects of our lives every day, 5) how governments can be changed for the better, and most importantly 6) citizens’ responsibilities in a constitutional democratic republic that impact those governments. This is the oxygen of democracy; diminish it or remove it and democracy becomes ill, or dies. "Government is the guardian of those who have no guardian." Mohammed. At the heart of it, people want a government that gives a damn about their problems. Government's role is not to oppress the people, as we see in many countries on earth. Our goal is to create a society that maximizes liberty & freedom & human rights; we want a better world. Government’s role is to protect people and to provide needed and desired services that no one else can provide in as an efficient and effective manner. The truth is humans are imperfect and flawed; psychological studies show that people will cheat when no one is watching. That is why we need government and laws and regulations to restrain unethical behavior that harms others in society. No one likes traffic tickets; some would like to wave a wand to eliminate them, which would be crazy, for running red lights and speeding kills innocent people. We have to have laws that restrains behavior to protect innocent people. This is why it is important to study American Government
